:: a short history

once upon a time after the 1999 general election, several idealist law college sophomore gathered at universitas indonesia’s dorm discussing a pathetic reality on the difficulties in obtaining access to legal information. lexis-nexis and westlaw were far from affordable for us at that time.

we realized that it was actually the government’s responsibility to disseminate and promulgate the law. but, nothing much can be expected from the newly established government. so, we decided to take over…

with the help of a very generous constitutional law professor, theceli website was established, making it the first online legal information center in indonesia. we then tried to set up a legal entity for this institution before a notary. two weeks after the deed was created, the notary called us saying that she was surprised to find that most of us were below 21 years old. so, the deed was annulled as we were not mature enough to have the legal capacity to enter into contract under indonesian law :D

time passes and most of us were dispersed into our own respective activities. at the beginning of 2005, the brotherhood re-gathered and declared that we must continue our effort in providing free information. this time, we are mature enough (of course).

from this year ahead, we will continue presenting the readers free law information and regenerate our ideas and work to our successors.

:: underlying philosophy

when this world was created, there were no ownership. this nature can be freely exploited by everyone. when the earth’s population becomes a little crowded, some “intellectuals” come up with the idea of property.

and so, people begun to create borders for their land and making everything on this nature a subject of their ownership. even the products of their minds are now subjected to certain intellectual property rights.

we feel that there is something wrong. this nature has basically belonged to every individual equally. our knowledge is not our possession, it should be disseminated to others who are in need. however, property institution has become inevitable today so we acknowledge that everyone is entitled to obtain certain material gain in accordance with their work, but it shall never hinders the rights of others in attaining what has naturally belonged to them.

this is what underlies theceli’s philosophy. we adopt a copyleft-like approach toward our content. as you may probably notice in our disclaimer and terms and conditions of use, your articles will still be protected under mandatory copyright regulations, but by submitting it to our website you will automatically license others to redistribute and copy them for either commercial or non-commercial purposes.

the internet resembles the earth during the first age of human creation. free content and free license softwares are now mushrooming. Wikipedia.org, the largest encyclopedia has a free content. michael h hart’s project guttenberg, a repository of classic works has a GNU/GPL license. and so does programmes on source-forge.net! mozilla’s firefox which has become a leading internet browser superseding microsoft’s IE is a peer edited software. the same goes to the largest human-edited internet categorization project, dmoz.org. in this free source era, the more we give, the more we’ll receive…

if its for free, then where do we get our funds? No! we will never accept any donation for this institution. theceli has several business units that is operated by professionals. some of the profit obtained is allocated for the maintenance of our website. as you can see, we have started to expand our network to companies, universities and government institutions.

budi adrian ridwan A.K.A budi. born in jakarta on the 26th day of october 1979, this music lover with unique engraved of smiles is a 2003 graduate of faculty of law, universitas indonesia. aside from his intellectual excellence, budi also had been known for his practical characters, this being shown in his involvement in several organisations, e.g. moslem youth activities and broadcaster in a private radio station. His keen interests in labour related laws has positioned him in the human resources department in astra credit, one of prestigious multinational companies specialising in automotives, the same field he chooses to spend his pastimes.


fatahillah hoed A.K.A fatah. born in jakarta on the 22nd day of august 1978, fatah is a living evidence of madness and brilliance. it is within this colour he has shown many of his great potentials highly recognized among his educated peers and noted individuals. a double bachelors holder of german literature and business law from university of indonesia, he is now entrusted to be a part of one of the oldest and widely regarded law firms in indonesia, lubis ganie surowidjojo. this founder of ui capital market research institution has an amazing appetite and curiousity for almost any variety of food and beverages both domestic and international, particularly when accompanied by his lovingly wife.


heru widiatmoko A.K.A heru. born in jakarta on the 4th day of april 1979, heru is without doubt a computer noted expert. heru finished his Computer Science degree in 2002 whilst succesfully completed his law degree from university of indonesia in 2003. at present heru enjoins the it task force division in department of Industry republic of indonesia. a pragmatic oriented, heru is a well planned character when it comes to his role and function yet always remains calm and witty during his free times.


mohamad mova al afghani A.K.A mova. born the same date with JFK on may 29th 1980, this gemini guy may look shy the first time you see him. however, he’s nothing of the sort! a natural born researcher and idea factory that can discuss almost any topics with anyone, mova is endowed with unique personality which often surprises his peer. during his student days he participated in several law moot court competitions worldwide, co-founded the international law moot court society of ui with several friends, actively involved in HMI from the faculty level to the national board and involved in supervising the 1999 national election. in 2003 he asissted a senior partner in establishing indonesia’s 1st virtual legal service, lgsonline. despite his relatively young age, he became speakers in seminars and has written extensively for international journals and newspapers. this stargazing-aficionado-lawyer is associated with one of indonesia’s largest and oldest law firm, the lubis ganie surowidjojo. mova lectures public international law and coached law students to worldwide moot court competitions in his spare times.

pradono parama prasta A.K.A dono. born in jakarta on the 8th day of march 1980 , dono is religious yet liberal thought individual. his interests in law related economic has been evidenced by his employment in ernest & young, one of the well noted international tax consultants world wide. dono graduated from business law faculty of law university of indonesia in 2003 and further obtained his certified brevet of tax competence in indonesia in the following year. long life education is one of his perceived philosophies of life; currently dono is taking his business master degree in prasetya mulya and expected to graduate any time soon. an equal tennis partner, dono also plays piano and has a permanent session on several entertaining places jakarta wide.


raden wahyuningrat A.K.A wahyu. born in jakarta on the 30th day of march 1980, wahyu is recognized by many as multi talented guy, a writer, a graphic designer and an event organizer. his major is criminal law obtained from faculty of law university of indonesia in 2003 and currently displaying his great talents as talk show production assistant in metro tv, the first tv news station in indonesia. among his regarded experiences, wahyu has been well exposed, inter alia, mini-series scenario writer of a production house and a copywriter in first edition, a international advertisement agency. For fun, wahyu is fond of exploring new fields of study and establish contacts from almost walks of life, aside from his effort in finishing his first novel altogether with producing an independent movie.


rahmat bagja A.K.A babeh. born in jakarta on the 10th day of february 1980, babeh is by definition a characterized leader. top notch seats seemingly were of no contradiction to this integrated individual, from elected chairman of youth islamic organization to elected president of student senate to elected secretary general of law student senates indonesian wide. a graduate of law majoring constitutional law from faculty of law university of indonesia in 2003, babeh has chosen to be an associate lawyer in law firm widjojanto, sonhadji & partner. prior to his current profession, babeh was also entrusted to be a researcher in center for constitutional law study faculty of law university of indonesia and supervision staff of national supervisory committee for national election 2004 in cooperation with undp. for leisure, babeh together with his wife collecting war movies and read books.


sunan jaya rustam A.K.A sunan. born in jakarta on the 27th day of november 1978, sunan is a combination of intellectual excellence, perseverance and well attitude character. Achievements specific, his noted lists range vastly from senior high school to academic levels to working exposures. Among his recent highly regarded were best student and graduate awards from faculty of law university of indonesia in 2003, third best from university of indonesia, several indonesia representations both in national and international forums particularly in international law of which is his major, and the latest one is his being granted as a chevening scholarship recipients from the british council to pursue master degree in the united kingdom. work experience wise, sunan started his practical life journey from namely general motors buana indonesia, ericsson indonesia, friedrich ebert stiftung, hadiputranto hadinoto & partners, assegaf hamzah & partners, bahar & partners and kaltim prima coal before finally anchores in diplomatic corps department of foreign affairs republic of indonesia. sunan is witty and humorus personal and for fun (pro-bono) he coaches university students across indonesia for international law moot court competitions world wide.


:: the next generation

bisariyadi A.K.A bisar. a well mannered individual, bisar is a graduate of constitutional law major from the law faculty of ui. during his college days he had been involved in islamic youth movement. bisar currently work for the indonesian constitutional court. previously, he had been experienced in ngo asissting dki jakarta government in creating regional regulations. an activist at one of indonesia’s leading political party, partai keadilan sejahtera, bisar was born in jakarta on january 3rd 1979. he wrote poetries and climb mountains to channel his thirst for nature.

muhammad nur solichin A.K.A solichin. presenting a calm and sincere smile to the world, this dilligent person is a graduate of business law from the law faculty of ui. an activist of students spiritual movement, solichin currently works for law and policy study center (PSHK) and an assistant lecturer at the faculty of social and political science at the law faculty of ui. solichin was born in may 10th 1979.

siti kartini saudiah A.K.A diah. this self-confident young lady is a graduate of business law (1998-2003) from the law faculty of ui. actively involved in student senate and HMI during her college days, diah was born in jakarta in the 26th of march 1981. she is currently finishing her study at the notarial magister at the law faculty of ui and work for a notary office.
